Instructions for SNAMeLearning Students

Thank you for your interest in the SNAMeLearning Center, http://www.SNAMeLearning.org This page contains important information about your participation in our courses. Please print it out, read it carefully and file it for future reference.

Your first step in participating in the SNAMeLearning Center is to sign up. This process only needs to done once and only takes about 4 minutes. You must sign up before you can register for a course.

The next step is to register for a course (you must be logged in to register). Again, this only takes a couple of minutes. Payment can be made by credit card or check.

Once you have signed up and registered for a course, each student should log in to http://www.SNAMeLearning.org prior to the date the course starts and spend some time getting accustomed to the web site.

Any technical problems should be emailed to Support@SNAMeLearning.org

Payment must be received in order for you to access course assignments, solutions, SlideShows and our Virtual Classroom. Registration and/or payment related questions should be directed to Registration@SNAMeLearning.org

If you have any questions about the Course subject material, please contact the Instructor for the relevant Unit.

General Instructions:

  1. A list of recommended reference materials can be found here: http://www.sname.org/NAME/
  2. Each Course is divided into discrete Units of Study.
  3. Each Unit is further broken down into one or more Modules.
  4. Each Unit can have one or more Assignments associated with it. An Assignment usually consists of suggested readings and practice problems.
  5. Assignments for each Unit will be available for download on the day the Unit starts.
  6. Solutions for Assignments will normally be available for download 4 days after the start of each Unit.
  7. Students are responsible for downloading and completing assignments for each Unit within one week of the start of the Unit.
  8. Each Unit ends with a live, Virtual Classroom session led by a qualified instructor.
  9. Virtual Classroom sessions will always take place ten days after a Unit starts. The live session will start at 8 pm EST and end around 11 pm EST.
  10. Each new Unit will commence at one week intervals after the first Unit is scheduled.

How do I sign up for the SNAMeLearning Center?

The sign up process is only done once. To sign up, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.SNAMeLearning.org
  2. Click the "sign up" link at the top right of the home page. (Where it says "Please log in or sign up")
  3. Read the information on the "Step 1" page. Then scroll to the bottom of the "Step 1" page and click the "I AGREE" button.
  4. Select your Employer from the listbox and click the "Proceed" button. If your Employer appeared in this listbox, skip the next step.
  5. If your Employer does not appear in the listbox, click the "Add New Employer" link. Fill in your Employer's name, address and other information. Then click the "Add New Employer" button at the bottom.
  6. Enter a User Name (you will use this to log in to the site), a valid email address and other information on the form. Then click the "Sign Up" button at the bottom. Note that a temporary password will be emailed to you. (You can change your password or any of the information you entered on this form later.)
  7. You should receive a confirmation page telling you that your Sign Up has been completed. You will also receive a confirmation via email with your temporary password.

How do I register for a course?

To register for a course, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.SNAMeLearning.org
  2. NOTE: In order to receive the discounted rate for SNAME members, you must have your SNAME Membership Number available when you register for a course.
  3. Click the "Log In" link at the top right of the home page. (Where it says "Please log in or sign up")
  4. Enter your User Name and Password. Then click the "Log In" button.
  5. Click the "Course Registration" link that is near the top of the page, in the center.
  6. Read the information on the "Step 1" page. Then scroll to the bottom of the "Step 1" page and click the "I AGREE" button.
  7. Select your name (or the name of the person you are registering) from the "Student(s)" listbox. Note that you can register up to 6 people from your organization at a time. Also note that if a name does not show up in this list, the person has not signed up.
  8. Fill in the optional SNAME Membership Number (if you are a member), and the other information on the form. Then click the "Continue With Course Registration" button at the bottom of the page.
  9. On the new form that appears, select a Payment Method. If you select "Credit Card", fill in the credit card information as well. Click the button at the bottom.
  10. You should receive a confirmation that your Registration has been sent.

How do I log in to the SNAMeLearning Center?
  1. Using your browser, go to the SNAMeLearning Center home page: http://www.SNAMeLearning.org
  2. Near the top of the page on the far right hand side, you will see the words "Please log in or sign up." Since you have already registered for the Course, you have already "signed up." Click the "log in" link.
  3. Enter the User Name you selected when you signed up.
  4. Enter the Password that was emailed to you when you signed up, or if you changed your password, enter that password now.
  5. If you have forgotten your password, click the "Forget your info? Click Here" link at the bottom of the Log In box.
  6. Click the "Log In" button at the bottom of the Log In box.

What do I do if I forgot my User Name and/or Password?

If you ever forget your password, you can always request that they be emailed to you by following these instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.SNAMeLearning.org
  2. Click the "log in" link on the upper right side of the page ("Please log in or sign up")
  3. Click the "Click Here" link at the bottom of the Log In box, next to the words "Forget your info?"
  4. Enter the email address you entered when you signed up. Then click the "Send Username/Password" button. Your User Name and Password will be emailed to you.

What do I do if I forgot my SNAME Membership Number?

Your SNAME Membership Number is on your SNAME Membership card.

  1. If you don't have your SNAME Membership card available, please email Eilleen Romanelli Registration@SNAMeLearning.org
  2. Your SNAME Membership Number will be emailed to you.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password by following these instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.SNAMeLearning.org
  2. Click the "log in" link on the upper right side of the page ("Please log in or sign up")
  3. Enter your User Name and Password. Then click the "Log In" button.
  4. "Welcome" and your name should now appear in place of "Please log in or sign up" on the upper right side of the page. Click your name or the small icon just to the left of it to display your Member Profile.
  5. Click the "Edit" icon that appears just below your name.
  6. Enter your new Password. Note that you have to do this twice to insure that you typed it correctly.
  7. Scroll down and click the "Update Member Info" button.

How do I download Assignments?
  1. NOTE: Assignments can be any of the following: Assignments, Course Notes.
  2. Log in to the SNAMeLearning Center.
  3. Starting at the home page (http://www.SNAMeLearning.org), select the Program associated with the course you are taking from the list box titled "Select A Program."
  4. Click the name of the Course or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Courses in Program."
  5. Click the name of the Unit or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Unit."
  6. Scroll down and click the "Download" link next to the Assignment.
  7. What happens next depends on how your computer is set up and the type of document you are downloading. Normally, you will either be presented with a standard Windows File Open dialog box that will allow you to save the file on your hard drive. On some computers, the application associated with the document will be launched and you will be able to view the file immediately. For example, if you are downloading a Microsoft Word document, Word is executed and the Assignment document is displayed automatically.
  8. If you downloaded the file to your hard drive, open it with the appropriate application.
  9. IMPORTANT: Don't forget to download all of the Assignments for the Unit you are currently working on.

How do I download Solutions?
  1. Log in to the SNAMeLearning Center.
  2. Starting at the home page (http://www.SNAMeLearning.org), select the Program the course you are taking is in from the list box titled "Select A Program."
  3. Click the name of the Course or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Courses in Program."
  4. Click the name of the Unit or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Unit."
  5. Scroll down and click the "Download" link next to the Solution.
  6. What happens next depends on how your computer is set up and the type of document you are downloading. How do I view Slide Shows?
  1. Log in to the SNAMeLearning Center.
  2. Starting at the home page (http://www.SNAMeLearning.org), select the Program the course you are taking is in from the list box titled "Select A Program."
  3. Click the name of the Course or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Courses in Program."
  4. Click the name of the Unit or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Unit."
  5. Scroll down and under "Slide Shows", click the "View Slide Show" link for the Slide Show you want to view.

How do I get into the Virtual Classroom?
  1. Log in to the SNAMeLearning Center.
  2. Starting at the home page (http://www.SNAMeLearning.org), select the Program the course you are taking is in from the list box titled "Select A Program."
  3. Click the name of the Course or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Courses in Program."
  4. Click the name of the Unit or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page, under "Unit."
  5. Under "Virtual Class", click the "Class On mm/dd/yyyy" link or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page."
  6. Verify that the email address shown is current and accurate. If your email address has changed, please enter the new address at this time. Then click the "Proceed to Virtual Classroom" button at the bottom.
  7. Three browser windows will be launched:
    1) A page containing instructions/tips
    2) A window with instructions on how to connect to the SNAMeLearning Streaming Media server (i.e., voice broadcast for the class) and
    3) A Registration Form for the Virtual Class where you can fill in your name and email address.
  8. If popups are being blocked on your PC, please click on the information bar at the top of the page below the URL address bar and enable popups from this site (SNAMeLearning.org)
  9. If you have installed the Google Toolbar and you receive a message that it is blocking popups, please click the Popups Blocked button on the toolbar to unblock popups from this site.
  10. If you still do not see these three windows, try refreshing this PERC Instructions page by pressing your F5 function key or clicking the Refresh button on your browser's toolbar. If that doesn't work, click your browser's Back button and re-enter the classroom.
  11. Select the Registration browser window and enter your first name, last name, and email address.
  12. Click Register Now (or Join Webinar in Progress) button.
  13. A GoToWebinar page will be displayed. Click Yes or Always as instructed.
  14. You should now be in the "classroom." (Note: If the classroom has not yet been opened by the Instructor, you may get a message telling you the date/time of the session. You will automatically be allowed into the actual classroom once the Instructor opens it.) A Control Panel should appear in the upper right corner of the page and a white-backgrounded area where course content will be displayed to its left. If you could not get in, please call us at 212-684-5553 and ask for "SNAME PERC Tech Support." Please do not wait until the course is starting to call us. We don't want you to miss anything!
  15. You should also receive an email confirming your registration. There is also a link to the classroom. Please do not use the link in the email to access the classroom the night of a class. Always enter from SNAMeLearning.org as described above. You will not be given credit for attending the class if you enter the classroom using the link in the email!
  16. To connect to the audio stream and listen to the instructor (or some test music), select the SNAMeLearning Streaming Media browser window from your task bar. Then follow the instructions in this window to connect to the audio stream. Make sure you have your speakers connected and turned on, and make sure the volume is turned up.
  17. During a lecture, the Instructor will share his/her desktop and "push" relevant web pages, PowerPoint presentations and/or other documents your screen.
  18. You will spend most of your time during the Virtual Class viewing the combined Whiteboard/Chat browser window. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, just above the words "Chat to". Your User Name should have been added to the "Chat to" box. (This will allow the Instructor and other students in the Virtual Classroom to identify comments you make via the chat box.)
  19. To ask the Instructor questions, type your questions or comments in the wide chat input box at the bottom of the page and press the Enter key. The text you typed should appear in the scrollable chat window directly above the input box preceded by your User Name.
  20. The Instructor will be "drawing" on the whiteboard and asking/answering questions using the chat window.
  21. We suggest you practice logging in to the Virtual Classroom and using the chat window at least one day before an actual live session.

How do I contact an Instructor by Email?
  1. Log in to the SNAMeLearning Center.
  2. Starting at the home page (http://www.SNAMeLearning.org), select the Program the course you are taking is in from the list box.
  3. Under "Courses in Program", click the name of the Course or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page.
  4. Under "Units", click the name of the Unit or the green arrow next to it on the right hand side of the page.
  5. The Instructor's name appears at the bottom, left-hand side of the page, under "Unit Information." Click the mail icon next to their name to send the Instructor an email.
  6. If no application is configured as your default email application, copy the "email" link and email the instructor via your usual means.
